It's always handy to have a sketch book in your bag.

It's a little complex.. but my awesome ancient dutch 'aunt' has a style that's just unforgettable.

I like to make designs for iphone cases (these are all mine and can be purchased from society 6 or zazzle.com.au, just click the case you like).

Sometimes it's nice to remind yourself, every little thing you do, it all adds up.

Have you tried writing notes to yourself for a quick cheer-me-up or some much needed inspiration?

The late 90s

The 90s

The 90s
Blow up furniture, Spice girls, hologram glasses, boy bands, torn denim, sportswear, head kerchiefs, body glitter, smilies..
It was a fun decade.

What really defined the 90s for you? Did you own any blow up furniture? I had a couch and a.. photo frame *blush*.

BFF sleepover: Stories, Manicures and Movies

BFF sleepover: Stories, Manicures and Movies

We don't celebrate Halloween much here in Australia, but I know what I'd love to do this all hallow's eve.
Movies, manicures, best friends, ghost stories and PJs.
Might as well dress the part too.

Today's costume

Today's costume.

Today's costume.
This is close to my look today, except my retro metallic coat I dug out of the wardrobe looks like a mix of these two Burberrys and is single breasted.

Look at those heels, imagine them with a pointed peep toe-top.. Let's just say my feet looked like something out of a butcher's shop.

How did you learn to walk in high heels?

Boy's wardrobe inspiration board 3-4 yrs

Z's size 4 wardrobe idea board draft

A draft idea board for the cutest little blond boy.
Nice and simple, easy to sew (and knowing boys, patch).
Pairing 40s mens fabric with 70s styles and cuts.

Sew-far (ahh let the bad puns begin)  I've sewn two oversized turtle/cowl neck pullovers, one charcoal with a 'check trim' front pocket, the other an olive with a cream panel in the sleeve for interest.
They're a hit with the little one.

He's almost outgrown his 'man trousers', with high waist, silver buttons and front pleats which I made early this year.
Boys look so cute in trousers and I love the idea of using a tie for the back pocket, to take a little of daddy with him wherever he goes.

What would you love to dress your little one in?

When my mother was my hero

When my mother was my hero

This is what my mother used to wear while I was playing dress ups in her wardrobe.
Do you remember the fun of falling around the house in your mum's heels?
Using her skirt as a tent?

What did your mother used to wear?

Cos it's 80s night and the feeling's right, oh yes it's 80s nite ohhh yeah!!!

'Cos it's 80s night and the feeling's right, oh yes it's 80s nite ohhh yeah!!!

I have an 80s night disco coming up soon.. This was a visual vomit of a few ideas.
As someone who only spent 4 years in the 80s, where are the 90s nights already??????

Who's with me?

Family picnic- Beautiful Australia

Family picnic

Today was such a wonderful day.
Australia is a beautiful place, it's nice to pop into a nature reserve park for a barbecue, past the gumtrees with white cockatoos squawking, as the sun sets and cyclists pass on their scenic route in the distance.

Setting up in the last rays of  today's Springtime sun, showing little hands how to peel paperbark and  where wattle flowers are, spying bunnies shying in the darkness on a drive back home towards a bay of  bleeding rainbow skies.

This is pretty much what I wore today for family veggie-burger flipping and enjoying the very best things life gives us in good company.

..Except I made the bag and knitted bracelets myself.

REALITY:

Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Hope you have a lovely day :)

What to wear: for a tooth extraction or root canal

What to wear: tooth extraction or root canal

What to wear: tooth extraction or root canal
(Also applicable for after surgery)- comfort is most important.
Wear covering, loose fitting clothes and comfortable, stable shoes; (anaesthetic grogginess in heels is a disaster).
Steer clear of heavy makeup, lipstick or fake tan.

Don't worry if you need dental work, there is some amazing technology and some wonderful people out there.
You should be fine, just breathe :)
(trust me, I know, this was my outfit today for an extraction)..

Any information corrections welcome.

Hope all goes well or you never need to know.

A little generosity can change a life

A little generosity can change a life

A little generosity can change a life by simplastic
I like to imagine the Cinderella story was a tale of generosity and emancipation, of a kindly godmother sharing her good fortune with an unfortunate young orphan.

A little generosity, however slight, of knowledge, kindness, time or fortune, can change the world, one person at a time.

A smile to a stranger, some local knowledge to a lost tourist, a compliment to a well-dressed woman, holding a door, donating time or money to a cause that moves you, generosity; happiness is here.

Heelless heels- do you wear the glass slipper?

A new pair of shoes

A new pair of shoes by simplastic featuring Giuseppe Zanotti heelless heels
Any excuse for new shoes is a good one.

I'd personally never wear these pretty shoes (They have a suede upper and leather lining) but love the 'hoof' look of heelless platforms.
A little like urban stilts, these Swarovski crystal studded beauties with set you back a pretty penny.

These are much like a chopine, a shoe (or overshoe) made to keep one's foot out of muck in the street and literally tower (or wobble) over people in the 1500s-1700s.
The height of the chopine would indicate the social status of the wearer, with some shoes being over 20 inches (50cm) high!

Most fashionistas sporting chopines at the time would need a servant or two to accompany them.. as a leaning post..
Even Lady Gaga has been known to have a topple or two on her heelless booties.
Luckily she has an entourage to hang onto.

Curious?

Have you scaled the heights of a heelless shoe?
Would you?

It's my best friend's birthday today. She's one of those friends I don't get to catch up with often, but when we do, we talk for hours.

She amazes me in that she's happy to be herself and has such a fun, understated dress style, a little like this.

Do you have a friend who inspires you?

Love brings you home- and there's no place like it

Love brings you home

Love brings you home by simplastic featuring a denim mini skirt
I came across an amazing costume test shot of little miss Judy on the 'Wizard of Oz' set.
I like the test costume better personally, what do you think?

There's a whole album of costume tests here.

Did you know?
the original cast tinman, Buddy Ebsen fell ill from inhaling the aluminium dust in his makeup.
When he was replaced by Jack Haley, aluminium paste was substituted instead.

Set Looks in reality

I like to assemble outfits on Polyvore.
It's all well and nice to imagine outfit after outfit, but pulling it off in everyday life is another story.

Here was my planned outfit for the day before I did my hair and makeup, a Zimmerman bluebell dress I hadn't got around to wearing yet.

The front split in the button-up dress and the sheer eyelet made a slip of sorts a requirement.
I thought I'd make it fun by layering underneath and on top.
I love bib and collar dresses with layers.

The shoes weren't brilliant to be honest, but they were my best pair for a walk in the weak early-spring sunshine. I know what I'll be spending my artist's earnings on this month :)

Buuut.. like we ladies are prone to do, I changed my mind and dress, opting for a printed sheer dress and collar necklace. A little less fancy for mum duty and a visit to the doctors.

'The costume test' teehee.
I liked my outfit, on to the little man's.
A little matchy perhaps but I was just ecstatic he finally wore the cap I made him.

Every day, no matter how menial, is a chance to try something new, to be yourself and to share a day with those special to you.
Special enough for a gingerbread man treat ;)

How do you work your outfits around kids?
How would you pair a sheer dress?
How do I wear that lovely Zimmermann dress? Does it require dying my hair or is it just me?

Thanks for reading, hope you have a beautiful day!
